Description

This spicy roasted cabbage recipe is a delicious and healthy side dish, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium-sized head firm cabbage
  • 2 T neutral-flavored oil
  • 2 T fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 2 tsp. Sriracha Sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. Vege-Sal (or regular salt)
  • 2 tsp. sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450F/230C.
  2. Spray a baking sheet with non-stick spray or oil.
  3. Cut the cabbage into four same-size pieces and remove any outer leaves that are discolored or wilted.
  4. Carefully cut each piece in half to make 8 same-size wedges, keeping the core attached.
  5. Place each piece of cabbage on the baking sheet, arranging so the wedges are not touching each other.
  6. Whisk together the oil, lime juice, Sriracha Sauce, and Vege-Sal to make the glazing mixture; then brush it over the cabbage with a pastry brush.
  7. Carefully turn each piece of cabbage over and brush the other side, reserving some liquid to brush again when you turn the cabbage after it’s roasted on one side.
  8. Roast in the center of the oven for 15-17 minutes, or until the edges are starting to brown.
  9. Use a large turner to carefully turn the hot cabbage pieces, then brush again with the remaining lime-Sriracha-oil mixture.
  10. Roast for 15-17 minutes more, or until the second side is starting to brown.
  11. Remove from oven, place on serving dish, and sprinkle with sesame seeds if using.
  12. Serve the Spicy Cabbage hot, and enjoy.

Notes

  • If you really like lime, you can add slightly more lime juice.
  • Use a full-size baking sheet if your cabbage is large.
  • Sriracha sauce can be adjusted based on taste preference.
  • Sesame seeds are optional.
