Description
This crispy honey garlic tofu is a delightful dish that brings together the texture of crispy tofu and the sweetness of honey, enhanced by garlic and a medley of delicious sauces.
Ingredients
Scale
- 14 oz (400 g) firm tofu, pressed and cubed
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Start by preparing your tofu. Wrap it in a clean towel, set something heavy on top, and let it rest for about 15 minutes to achieve that irresistible crispiness.
- Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes. Toss them gently in cornstarch until each piece is lightly coated.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Carefully place the tofu cubes in a single layer and let them cook undisturbed until golden crust forms on each side.
- While the tofu cooks, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, water, sesame oil, and grated ginger in a small bowl.
- Once the tofu is crispy, lower the heat and pour the sauce into the pan. Stir gently to coat each piece.
- Let everything simmer for another minute or two until the tofu is fully coated and the sauce has thickened slightly.
- Finish with a sprinkle of green onions and sesame seeds.
- Serve immediately while it’s still warm and perfectly crisp.
Notes
- Pressing the tofu is crucial for achieving the right texture. The longer it drains, the better.
- This dish can be served over rice or with stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
- Adjust the amount of honey according to your preferred sweetness.
